Hello All,
This post is a bit similar to my last one in regards to the fact that
I am looking for a LIGHTWEIGHT alternative to using a standard RGB CRT
monitor to hook up Jamma PCB's to.
My two alternatives are either a video projector or a flat screen tv/
computer monitor. Both of these hare lightweight and also have a
small footprint too.
I would like for the new video hook up to handle both RGB AND SVGA so
I can use a computer with the set up as well. This is not mandatory
but a preference.
I was told that SVGA and RGB are not all that different except for the
sync frequency which is on the order of 15khz for RGB and for SVGA it
is about 31khz (and up).
Thus far I have seen a very rare few LCD projectors made by NEC that
are called "Multi-sync" and some of these go down to 15khz. However,
in terms of their LCD flat screen monitors thusfar none of them go
down to 15khz.
I have heard that there are converters available for RGB to SVGA...but
the good ones are over $200. That is a bit too much for me as I would
rather put that money into a better display.
Another option that I seen was S-video. I have seen both projectors
and flatscreen tv's to have an S-video input and my computer has an S-
video output as well. However, I heard that S-video isn't as good as
a computer monitor or an RGB monitor for that matter. Also with S-
video, now I am still faced with a conversion process for the Jamma
PCB. But would this be cheaper than the highly expensive RGB to SVGA
converters I have seen?
Thusfar it does seem that my only option is to go with a projector.
These can be had for a good price, but a big concern about projectors
is the high cost of a replacement bulb. So I am still on the fence
about going with a projector. But more ideal would be a 20" to 27"
LCD computer monitor that can go down to 15khz, or will accept S-
video.
Any suggestions?
Thank You,
E.
