Hello and greetings to the group.
A brief introduction, I am something of an ADOM veteran, having won
several times. I also got a very likely winner in Nethack (close to
the wizard, ascension kit, but in hiatus for a years or two now). And,
I have the same in ToME - level 50 mage standing in mount doom, about
to rid the world of the one ring.
Guess these two remain sleeping because I'll be so very disappointed
if I pick them up again and have them insta-killed.
Anyway, I've tried Angband a bit now. I started out with half-troll
warriors to build a monster memory and get a feel for the game. Jiamas
X (v.10) got to clevel 31, was running around picking up stat potions
when he died. Then I decided I had had enough with the might, time for
the magic.
So, 20 incarnations (at least, sometimes I did not alter my name)
Jiamas XXX has proven a survivor so far. First to make it to stat-gain
depth, he managed to persuade me that further diving was of little
use, and so we finished it with little fuzz. One thing slightly boring
I did, was first scum for a free action ring before going below 1000',
and then scumming for a poison resist before hitting 1500'. Both found
& bought from the black market.
Anyway, after stat gain I hung about dl 2450-2500 a great while, but
having found a few +con items I decided to make a dive for it. I think
that paid off, and currently I have just picked up some new artifacts,
and need a sort of guide how to go from here. Saruman indirectly
donated them, he summoned a white wyrm that dropped the newest axe. I
think I am not ready for him with his disenchantment attack, though.
Anyway, what would you make of this equipment setup?
Also any advice for "monsters-to-avoid" and "items-to-find" would be
appreciated.
I promise NOT to play this character for two full days, or till I have
enough advice, so you don't spend time writing a reply and then read
"thanks for advice, but I died next turn anyway".
My hunch is:
- Use the Durin axe, replace con ring with the int one for 0%, but I'm
not well versed in the art of "which weapon kick the most a**".
Branding and such. I was using the westernesse long sword a long
while, the noticed great damage increase with glaurung (which is quite
new to me). Raal's tome is a pretty new acquisition for me, before
that melee was my only hope of serious long-term damage. But now, hmm.
- I just though that I might want to use the great ESP helm I've got.
Switched it out for crown when I found it, for the massive +con, but
now I suddenly realize that con might be maxxed other ways. And the
resistances might be covered elsewhere. Hm.
Apologies for the version. Guess I should upgrade? Just need to win
one first...
