The answer (for those e's that haven't seen the forum) is to turn the
"audible bell" option off; it's under disturbance options. This is a
consequence of me usually developing using the linux SDL ****t, and the
sound being broken there, and me not caring because the sound has been
broken on my laptop; the good news is that I have fixed the last of
these, so the other dominoes should fall soon.

Yeah, it seems like doing anything not browser based on the net is
getting less ans less convenient. I was using the rgra gateway at
oook; now that's down I'm back to Google Groups. I've tried other
usenet sources occasionally, but they always go away, so I've voted
with my feet.
