Personally I don't tend to melee as a mage, so I would stick with the
defender.
I'd also wear Hithlomir instead of the dwarven or Elvenkind armours. It is
nice
and light to avoid en***brance penalties, stealth is always great and
you'd then
have both rLight and rDark which will vastly reduce your chances of
getting
blinded.
