No selling is an interesting idea, but I would like to hear more than
anecdotal re****ts from very-experienced players about how much better the
game is without it. I am not convinced it would make the game better for
casual players or new players.

Removing selling would make inventory management far less im****tant a game

element than it is otherwise, at least until endgame. Currently, before
gold becomes meaningless (which happens sometime after stat gain)
characters
have a good incentive to delve into the dungeon with plenty of room to
spare
weight-wise, so that they can carry more stuff with them to sell.

With no selling, characters would have no reason not to load up almost
fully, slot-wise and weight-wise, because the number of things one finds
in
the dungeon that one can actually use, starts low and gets lower fast.

Whether it's a good thing to reduce the im****tance of weight/slot
management
is up for discussion, but I think that effect should be discussed.
Inventory management is a fundamental component of Angband strategy,
clearly.

I notice that the advocates of no-selling are very experienced players who

also tend to play for low turn count. Low turn count players obviously
can
never store scum, and get comparitively few store inventory changes to
work
with - so shopping for them is relatively unim****tant to begin with.

But how 'no selling' would affect the newbie/casual player experience is
another matter. It actually is fun to find valuable stuff in the dungeon,

take it back to town, sell it, and buy something nice. It's an intuitive,

natural way to make progress. I'm not sure it would be nice for players
to
be confronted with tons of useless junk in their first forays in the
dungeon. As it is, they can pick up almost anything and sell it, which is
a
nice thing for a newbie trying to make some progress.

And, who are we to deprive players of that unforgettable sale of a random
cloak which turns out to be a Cloak of Aman or something... it hurts when
it
happens but I think it adds something to the game just the same.

Now, I would be all for turning off the differences in shopkeepers,
especially their max buying price. I think that adds nothing to the game.

Actually, the max buy price could depend entirely on Charisma, to make
that
stat more useful.
