It would have been precisely the same if he found a 20K gold drop instead
of
the dragonscale mail.  We had this discussion a month or two ago. 
Everyone
agreed that if given the option to sell a single-base-element DSM it was
usually an automatic choice to do so.

If you believe that what the OP did was fun and good in the game,
eliminating
selling and generating occasional gold drops in multiples of 10K would be
pretty much the same.  You could make it pretty much equivalent by,
whenever
you drop gold, call the item generation routines and drop the selling
value of
a randomly generated item.
