This is, as I see it, another myth. Look closely at those high scores
and you'll see the real reason for how big they are is low number of
turns - remember fini****ng in 30k turns means a score bonus of 50
million points. On top of this a few of those low turn, unsaved
characters in the hall of fame abused the piety loop bug, meaning they
had an insane amount of piety and got an insane points bonus from it
(on the order of at least 20 million).
I will test some time completing the game with just 1 save in 25k
turns to ensure this is correct. I already have a 25k turn victory
with no saves to compare it to directly - he got about 80 million
points, which fits in perfectly with a 55 million bonus for fini****ng
in a low number of turns added to the regular amount of points from a
gate-closing victory.
