Hah!  Well that explains it.  Sorry, guess you weren't to know - the
Skilled 
talent usually crashes the game, so don't choose it.  It's a fairly 
well-known bug, but with little or not ADOM development in preference to 
JADE it's unlikely to get fixed any time soon.
