Safer for new players:
-Go to bandit town if you feel safe, otherwise ignore.
-Go to SMC to generate it, but leave after a few turns without killing
anything.
-Go to VD and stay on levels 1 and 2 till char level 10. (ID is an
alternative, but more dangerous. DD is too dangerous for this with most
chars.)
-Go get healing, being wary of dangerous monsters like ghuls.
-Get Detect Traps.
-Go to CoC for food and do initial dwarven quests (use invis potion to get
past big room).
-Harvest herbs and get toughness to at least 25.
After that you might be reasonably safe. But don't take chances. Only go
through SMC later with invis + tele****t. Spellcasters might want to
stair-hop in the ID for plenty of books.
