I never have the patience to go through the animated forest, not even
when I have controlled tele****tation (in fact I visit it only
accompanied by the banshee),but DH is an extremely dangerous place, as
well as highly corrupting. Running through as fast as you can is more
than advisable. Was the fake shop in a way of getting to the stairs?

I once encountered a tension room full of doppleganger kings in DH2, my
worst nightmare, nothing comes close to them, not even the lich
emperors. They were not exactly in the room with the stairs but the one
nearby where the doors were destroyed, so I had to take them down
eventually if I wanted to go that route whenever going up and down. I
think it took at least 15 tries on various occasions until all 20 or so
were gone. Probably the scariest fight ever, which probably explains why
I was content to kill one or two and than run away ;). The character is
already developed enough to care deeply and not buff/equipped enough to
deal with it.
