I recently tried playing a troll barbarian as a true berserker (on
berserk tactics, naked). Despite not find any decent weapons things
were going well until I went to the dwarf graveyard. I was level 11,
berserking, and wielding a spear two-handed but it wasn't enough to
kill the shadows and wights. They drained my strength by 11, my
toughness by 13 and after that I lost the will to live.
So! Questions about what I might have done better as a true
berserker...
1. Missile attacks. I guess if I could have killed the undead from a
distance things would have been easier. I was throwing rocks and using
throwing clubs, but the rocks did lousy damage and the throwing clubs
were hard to come by. Would it have been better to train another
missile skill? What about using huge rocks (the ones that weigh 1000s
stones). My strength was 37 so I could've hauled a few of those
around.
2. How much extra damage does fighting as a true berserker do anyway?
3. Would it have been better to fight two-handed or use a two-handed
weapon? I was using a two-handed weapon most of the time, because my 2-
weapon skill was so low.
4. What about playing as a gray elf barbarian true berserker instead?
That might give me enough magic skill to use magic instead of missile
weapons, as well as protecting me against annoying ghosts. But I'd be
missing out on the troll's awesome strength, hitpoints, and
regeneration...
