The problem isn't converting the altars per se. The problem is that if
you're even able to, your PC is a crowned champion. Since you need to
be some flavor of chaotic to receive the quests for the Medal of
Chaos, changing alignment at this point in the game so you can receive
the medal will reduce the PC to a fallen champion. And of course since
fallen champions can't complete ultra endings, you wouldn't need the
medal anyway.
