Wear the ring of the high kings - it grants fire resistance. And try to
find a red dragon or fire drake corpse to get intrinsic resistance. With
these and the gauntlets you'll take no heat damage. If you have the water
orb then you can use it for healing at the cost of some corruption (be
sure
to wear the elemental gauntlets to reduce this). Prayer and potions are
obviously better for healing, but the water orb is handy in a pinch.
What sort of gear do you have? And most im****tantly, what weapon? Find
anything nice in DarkForge? The big problem with the elementals is doing
enough damage to kill the buggers before they pummel you into the ground.
If you're having trouble with them in the fire temple then you'll get
utterly bukkaked in the Earth temple. It could be worth hunting down ego
weapons (from gnoll warbands for instance) to get something really
high-powered. Construct slaying ammo works a charm, but you obviously
don't
want to lose it all to the heat. You could lure the elementals down the
stairs one at a time, kill them quickly with arrows/quarrels, and try to
recover them before they burn.
Avoiding the elementals entirely is another option. Try to make a tunnel
to
the main area, get the wyrm's attention with a wand of magic missiles, and
lure it down the stairs to deal with individually (hope your alertness is
good for dodging his bolts, and your Wi high for resisting his confusion
attack). Take a few steps back, pepper him with dragon slaying ammo, grab
the orb and run. You can then always return later to get some xp from
killing the elementals when you're a bit harder.
How's your stats by the way? Herb-farming is obviously recommended -
required almost, for the tower - and you may want to use sickness to get
your To even higher (eating morgia when sick alllows you to train your Wi
and To to 30). Starvation can be used to get them even higher than this,
but I always find it tiresome and unnecessary.
Do you have a good ****eld? And how's your ****eld skill? Try to train
this
to the maximum you can, if you haven't already. Standing in the middle of
spider factories on very aggressive tactics whilst wearing two ****elds
normally works a charm. Play about with the tactics you use against the
elementals. You might find that you kill them more slowly on normal or
defensive tactics, but it reduces their hits by enough to make it more
worth
it. Conversely it could be that on very aggressive tactics you kill them
more quickly so they have less of a chance to hurt you (though I normally
avoid this - their criticals pack one hell of a punch).
Finally, level 21 is actually somewhat on the low side for the tower,
though
certainly still doable. Personally I'm normally around level 25. You
might
want to consider s***ming the ID for a couple more levels. Or you could
do
little bursts in the temple to get some levels - kill a couple of
elementals, go away to recover, then come back for more.
