Aside from securing enough fire resistances, you could also wear an item 
granting regeneration to alleviate the damage. As to unexplored areas, 
you haven't mentioned the library, which can be a good place to find 
some useful items. BTW, you're post implies that the ring of ice grants 
fire resistance, but it only affects you equipment.
