My cuurent char just went from Lvl 32 to Lvl 50 in a single combat!
What you need to know is that Lumpy, the Grey-Elven Elementalist, (a)
had been
crowned with the Cloak of Brannalbin and (b) had found two spellbooks
of Ice Ball
in a bookshop. Also, she took the talents to get lots of mana, extra
damage, and fast mana regeneration.
At level 35 of the CoC, not yet having hit the Air Temple, my she got
a "very excited"
message. A flip of the Detect Monsters wand showed one of those vaults
that's a
big rectangular room inside a bigger hex room, full of fire creatures.
The outer room
was elementals and fire lizards; the inner was Ds and about ten Ws.
The tactic that suggested itself was simplicity. With the Cloak on,
she walked in among the outer creatures, uncloaked at Coward, let them
surround her, and then let loose with R=2 Ice Balls. (She had to equip
the Orb of Water to get R=2, but it was worth it.) This got her up to
about Lvl 36, and she withdrew to recharge HP and especially PP.
Then she found the door to the inner room, used Frost Bolts to worm
her way in, and began blasting Ice Balls again. They never got her
below about 400 HP, and by the time she was done killing all those
Wyrms and ancient dragons, she was Lvl 50. Finding Hammerhead was just
a bonus at that point.
I do believe this will be a successful game 8*)
