It's an interesting one. I'd suggest that the spell is likely to be
toast. p182 of SR4 suggests that active spells on physical targets
have auras, not astral forms (an aura being non a non tangible
reflection of a physical object on the astral plane), which means that
a purely astral barrier would not stop a spell cast on a physical
target. However, SR4 states that Wards are dual natured mana
barriers, which means that it acts as a mana barrier in the physical
world. This dual nature suggests that the ward will attempt to stop
the barrier with an opposed test as per p186

p168. It's a focus that a mage has spent a simple action to
activate. When it's not activated, it doesn't function as a focus,
but can be passed through wards. When it is active, it does its
special thing, but it will be opposed by wards
