The thought occurs, if the game has been running for 9 years it likely
would have had a lot of social interaction. Has this problem occured
before, but due to the fact that it was at the lower social levels
(i.e. not the King's Court) there was little in the way of possible
negative results?

Perhaps this isn't a style difference or break, but more a case of
players trained over nine years that "X" works suddenly finding
themselves in a place where it doesn't.
