I vaguely recall a sociobiological argument for (some) altruistic
behaviour,
at least things that improve survivability of those with some of the same
genes.  But I guess if you translate "individual" to "gene complex" what
you
said would still be true.

I am mildly embarassed that I never remember where to find references in
these
discussions.
