We had often discussed the Vlad Taltos novels of Steven Brust and we
both like them. She thought his being an assassin was "cool," and I
thought it was a terrible thing that he might someday overcome. She
still thinks playing an assassin in THAT milieu would be ok. From my
reading of it, Vlad certainly does not agree.
She has since asked me what her NEXT assignment would have been if she
has simply refused ot kill the kid but didn't tell the Duke. She
thinks I marked the deck or loaded the dice against her playing an
assassin and enjoying it. And I guess I did. However, I asked her if
she would have felt better if she had several succesful kills under
her belt, of grown men she didn't know, and THEN she was asked to kill
a little girl, or a friend or a lover someone she liked and respected.
Evil can't ALWAYS be easy and convenient.
