I wouldn't ascribe _too_ much im****tance to that, influential as it's
been; the most successful free software project ESR has contributed to is
of course NetHack, which is entirely cathedrally to the point that it is a
major achievement to get a simple admission that there will _be_ a new
version at some point in the future. :-)

That said, I'm sure we have not forgotten the Doom source ****t that was
lost because the author didn't keep backups and had not yet released the
source. :-(
