I rather liked the Blair Witch Project when it first hit the theatres.
It was genuinely creepy, something that movies had been missing for
years before.  When it came out on DVD I gathered a group of friends
over to watch it.

They laughed all the way thru the show.

The guys is particular wouldn't let themselves get into the proper
mood for the movie.  A buncha 20-something males sitting around not
letting themselves be scared when that was the *point* ruined the
experience for everyone including themselves.

I think this phenomenon is what is ruining Doom3 for some players.
They're either playing with a buncha friends sitting around watching
over their shoulder, or they're running thru the game trying to treat
it like Goldeneye.  Either way, they aren't allowing themselves to be
immersed into the creepiness of the setting.  Its a slower-paced game,
obviously on purpose.  The flashlight limitation is there for a reason
and you modders are cheating yourselves out of your $55 when you use
it.

I'm sad to hear that the game wasn't entertaining for some of my
fellow gamers, especially when the fault is their own.  I'm enjoying
the heck out of Doom3, but then again I like to be scared by scary
movies.
