Hello,
I've searched forums and on this group, but haven't been able to find a
solution to my problem. I recently installed Doom 3 on a Dell XPS Gen3
(1GB RAM, 256MB Radeon Graphics). I originally installed Directx 9.0b
(included on the CD). After installing the game I was able to play for
hours without any problems (no hangs, freezes, etc). However, when I
restarted my computer it got stuck eternally on the Windows XP splash
screen with the progress bar looping forever. I booted into Safe Mode,
used System Restore to restore prior to installing Doom, updated my
video card drivers, downloaded Directx 9.0c from Microsoft. I
restarted at this point to be sure that neither the drivers nor Directx
were the problem. System came up fine. I installed Doom again, and
restarted. The problem returned (i.e. stuck forever on the XP screen
watching that blue line go round and round).
Has anyone encountered this problem or know of a solution? Right now
I've again restored to prior to installing Doom, but would really like
to get this figured out so I can both play Doom and restart the
machine!
Thanks!
