Thanks for  responding. I'd been to some of those sites... and now
all. I'm finding them confusing in that they seem to be mentioning
separate downloads or variants of the game. For example is "Doomsday"
DOOM? Is "jDOOM" DOOM? I'd like to figure out how to use the "Doom For
Windows 95 Launcher" interface that came with DOOM the Collector
Edition.

I play Ghost Recon all the time on-line. If I host it's easy to get my
IP and share it. It's also easy to join a game. With the DOOM
interface none of this is clear. Using "Modem connection for Direct
Play" I can get an option to dial a number but I don't seem to be able
to do connect with friends because they have high speed connection and
don't have a phone modem installed. So if I want to play on the net,
do I use

DOS Doom over modem
IPX connection to DOS 
Winsock TCP connection for DirectPlay
Null modem cable connection
Winsock IXP connection for DirectPlay

Then what? 

Are there better player interfaces than the Doom For Windows 95
Launcher what comes with the game?
