How Does One Play MultiPlayer On-Line with Old DOOM?

DOOM may be a bit dated but it remains an awesome game. I can't wait
for DOOM3.

I've always played the DOOM on PSX. But I just could not resist
getting the entire collection of old DOOM games for PC. I was pleased
to discover it supported on-line play but dismayed to discover that
the interface was circa 1995. Winsock TCP? AHHHH I'm lost... and the
help pages I've found so far don't help.

Can anyone walk me though (or point me to a Doom for dummies site)
just how create and join a game? I noticed there's a direct phone to
phone comnnection... but I'd prefer to create a internet connection so
more than one other person can join.
