Hello, I'm looking for help on getting the mouse to work in Doom I, Doom II
and/or Final Doom.
I recently bought that "Doom: Collector's Edition" pack that's been
floating
around, a great buy. Basically all the "old-school" Doom games of my
childhood.
Now, I knew going in that mouse support would be VERY dodgy, even with the
limited Win95 client provided in the pack for all three games. I have
available to me both a Win98 machine and an XP Pro machine, and on both I
can not get the mouse to work at ALL. Everything else works wonderfully,
sound and all. The instructions available for Activision customer support
is
scant indeed; basically "If the mouse works for you groovy, if not tough
luck chump." You tell the program to enable mouse support, and it's up to
it
whether or not to respect your request. :-D Below is the link:

So, not much help there. Does anyone know here what WOULD solve the
problem,
in other words what has actually worked for you or your friends?
Third-party
Doom client, like JDoom or something? Using a REALLY old mouse like a
serial
mouse or perhaps a slightly newer one like a PS/2 based model?
(Unfortunately all my current mice/mouses are USB, which is expressly
forbidden according to the Activision support link.) If anyone here has
gotten mouse support to work in Doom with the Collector's Edition, I would
be very interested to know the details.
Any tips or help anybody can provide would be wonderful, thanks folks. :)
