Re: Sam Sloan Master Title in Chinese Chess

by sloan@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Sam Sloan) Mar 27, 2008 at 09:41 PM

In 1988 I won the World Championship of Chinese Chess for Non-Chinese
in the Seven Stars Cup tournament in Beijing, China.

In order to win this title, I won two games against LAI Chi Kong (also
known as C. K. Lai) who won the Championship of Europe (Not the
Championship of Europe for Non-Chinese, but the Championship of Europe
for Everybody).

As a result, I have been awarded the FM title by the World Chinese
Chess Federation. FM stands for "Foreign Master". I am one of only
three Westerners in the world to hold the FM title.

Take a look at
http://wxf.dyndns.org/xq/xqdb_index.html

under San Francisco where I was living at the time. You will see that
I have the FM title and I am listed as one of the best players in San
Francisco, including among the Chinese living there.

I am posting this just to satisfy Taylor Kingston and Phil ("Nearly an
IM") Innes who keep asking about this.
