Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply. It's good to know that a few people read this list.

XieXie Master is strong enough to beat me without any difficulty, so I'll 
stick with it for a while! It has a nice interface, and so makes playing 
the game on the computer more approachable.

Does anyone know what the state of Xiangqi computer play is, compared to 
how strong Western Chess programs are? Are top players still able to beat 
the computers at Xiangqi? I would expect not, as I would expect the game 
to be much like Chess in its complexity. I suppose that it depends on how 
much effort has been put into developing Xiangqi programs.

For that matter, I don't know anything about the state of Xiangqi in 
China. Are there professional leagues, like for Go? Does anyone have any 
information about them (in English!) if there are?

I might have a look around Chinese website, but my Chinese is too poor to 
research effectively.

Does anyone know more?
