Yep, that's pretty much it. Winboard and Arena are chess interfaces
(GUIs), and they can use any chess engine that sup****ts them. Most
engines are one or the other, some are both, and some are neither
(they typically come with their own custom GUI).
The only thing to be careful of is that there are two Winboard
versions, 1 and 2. Most engines/interfaces only sup****t one version.
Chessmaster, for instance, only sup****ts Winboard v1 engines, so a lot
of newer engines won't work on it if they only sup****t v2.
