Aha! Found him, I think. Pillsbury's opponent is Jean Taubenhaus. He
can be seen here:

in a group ****trait from New York 1893, a tournament in which
Taubenhaus and Pillsbury both played. Taubenhaus is seated second from
right, between Lasker and Olly. If it's not the same guy as in your
photo, it must be his identical twin brother.
