Annual query

by laocmo <loliver2@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 8, 2008 at 07:19 PM

I have asked this question every year for a long time. Always nice to
hear how opinions change as time passes.

If the current popular openings like the Ruy, English, French, etc are
sound, why does a powerful computer with its book turned off never find
them? I know, it's supposed to be all about "opening themes". BUT theme
be dammed. If its a good opening the computer should find it. I would
expect a strong computer to find the first ten moves in the most popular
Ruy line without hesitation. Never does it seems. I can only conclude
the sequence of moves is somehow inferior.
