I wouldn't go quite that far. If south has an abnormal weak2 with a
diamond void, perhaps

xx
KJTxxx
VOID
KJTxx

then he could envision a scenario where 5h is a profitable sacrifice
and 5d paves the way for a successful defense against 5s. Of course,
that depends on the above hand (type) being suitable for a weak2. If
one is allowed to open such hands with a weak2 systemically, then I
see no reason to bar opener from bidding on (After all, Axxx hearts
and Ax clubs is enough for 5h, and we have ample defense against 5s if
partner leads a diamond: diamond ruff, over to partner's ace, diamond
ruff, over to partner's ace = down 2 at least).

The more interesting question is whether or not 5d is lead directing
or shows length. Perhaps the agreement should be:

bid of a new suit = natural, lead directing, inviting responder to
continue on with a double fit. Failing to double their final contact
denies a void in the 4th suit. Preempting, then bidding a new suit,
then doubling their final contract promises a void in the 4th suit and
demands a suit preference lead at trick 1 if responder sits for it.

Having the agreement that the new suit is always natural, and that new
suit plus double is always void showing in the 4th suit, would prevent
catastrophes like this:

QJxxxx
x
ATxx
xx

VOID
xx
KQxxxx
QT9xx

South West North East
3d 3h 5d 5h
5s(1) 6h 6s(2) dbl(3)
7d(4) dbl all pass

5s = better get my lead director in
6s = how nice, a pointed double fit! Maybe this is like the hand in
the 1974 Bermuda Bowl where Italy made a doubled slam at both tables
dbl = content, holding the AKT9x of spades and a worthless doubleton
diamond
7d = expletive deleted.....
