I would think that South has a maximum and a spade void and is
inviting a 6H sacrifice.  I would guess that diamonds is a help suit,
that he has KJxx or something there.

It could be, but it doesn't make much sense.  He already has a heart
fit.  North should NOT bid diamonds no matter what, because if you
have a double fit then so do they and this is a good way to get them
to bid their slam they would never reach otherwise.

You mean he is trying to psyche them out of a diamond lead?  But their
opening lead will be spades.
