I think that even asking that question by someone who claims to be a
teacher is something unmentionable.

OF COURSE it matters whether the two long suits are majors or if
opener has a major-minor two suiter.  The more majors one has, the
more likely one is going to find a playable game at the 4-level in his
major.

Back when BWS was running its polls for the 1968 edition, Kaplan and
Rubens posed two sets of identical hands, the first of which was major
oriented and the second of which was minor oriented.  I think the two
sets of hands were

in both cases, the expert panel voted overwhelmingly in favor of
opening the hands with long majors, and were split closer to even on
hands with both minors.

As mentioned previously, Stig is right to this extent:

opening light minor two suiters, when we are likely to be outbid in
the majors and which could allow light overcalls in a major, could
well be long term losing propositions.  In fact, if one were to wish
to follow the Roth-Stone dictum that changes of suit sound stronger
than rebids of the same suit, and if one were to decide that weak2s
are redundant in a light opening bid style, then one might with to
play that 2d = light with both minors, 2h = light with hearts and a
minor, 2s = light with 4 spades and a 6+ minor (say 9-13-ish points),
thereby allowing 1D-1M-2c or 1H-1S-2m to be 5-5 with extra values.
(Roth has always prefered the weak 1nt rebid to be a slowing down bid
showing a misfit and not necessarily a balanced hand.  it is one
aspect of his constructive bidding approach that could come close to
be a common, if not plurality, view.)
