I am with you up to the conclusion Henry. But the dog did not bark in
the night [assuming a hand of this strength is a par 4 spade bid in
the partner****p, partner with a probable heart void did not move over
4S]. That combined with my duplicated heart values and mediocre
offense leads me to salvage my likely 20% but on a good day 90%
board. Partner will expect at least as much offense as I will provide
and may overrule anyway. I think the same arguments would apply if I
had a forcing pass available.
If there was no potential upside to double, I would be inclined to
shoot for the narrow target.
