That's actually rather profound and I don't say that sarcastically. It
is an admirable insight into bridge partner****ps.
I had one partner, not counting my brother, I would have expected to
pass and I would have done exactly what I said and we would have
probably gotten the extra three hundred. He wasn't my clone but Scott
and I played a lot of bridge together and he understood how I thought
about this type of auction and had the temperment to take the good
with the bad. One of my current partners has the temperment but we
haven't played together that much and the other one would panic and
bid 2H as sure as I am sitting here, even though she KNOWS the way
this kind of hand probably works. So I wouldn't double with either of
them. I'd double with my brother Sid and trust him to work it out. We
have been playing together for fifty years, but we don't play together
often. He doesn't play very often at all.
But just because Scott Loring passed away and my brother almost never
plays doesn't make my thinking wrong on the hand, just eccentric.
