2D is a significant underbid but the suit is a bit ropy for 3D which

Lorne, do you really think that anyone would consider this hand close
to a 3d rebid?

I've always understood the standard to be 16-18'ish HCPs, or a little
less with good playing strength.  Something like

Axx
x
AKQJxx
xxx

might be a 3d rebid a little light on high cards, or even

Axx
x
KQT9xxx
Ax

But even this hand, better in almost every way that the opening
poster's hand, was not considered a 3d jump rebid by a majority of the
MSC:

AK
A
T87xxxx
AQx

most commented that the suit quality was just too poor (although a
couple did rebid 3d) and most rebid 2c, 2d or 2nt after 1d 1h.
