The trouble with a splinter to 4D here is what do you do if partner signs 
off in 4H.  You get the feeling that you haven't done enough.  So, you
make 
another try by raising to 5H (or even 6H) or taking control with 4NT.  But

then you've wasted a level of bidding with the splinter.  Moreover, this
is 
like issuing a slam invitation and then accepting it yourself.  What do
you 
need a partner for?

One way to avoid this is to just bid 3C with the idea that your next call 
will be 5H.  The advantage of this plan is that you get to hear what
partner 
bids over 3C which might shed some light on his holding and still leave 
captaincy open that a splinter doesn't.  OTOH, the ultimate jump to 5H
might 
imply a void in diamonds and that could be a problem.  Nevertheless, this
is 
the route I'd take.
