If your only goal is to win right now, then yes. I'm sure you can rent
an excellent professional for ten grand a session and win, if that is
your goal. you can direct all the contracts into his hand and you will
win the session, assuming that's your goal. Then you can preen yourself
on winning this session and impress all your friends. Just don't tell
them that you paid a professional ten grand. Say something like "Oh,
some one I nevr played with before."
If, on the other hand, you wish to play better bridge yourself, then
managing partner -- and opponents -- is a key part of it. You may not
win this session, but you will win other sessions because of that skill.
You will win -- not your ten grand.
The way to learn how to do that is to play with the 90% who, in
patpowers' words, to understand the withered vriant they actually
play..... with the aim of avoiding disaster. Well said, Pat.
