You are correct.  The following may be better bid as 1D however:

xxxx
KQx
AKxx
Ax

since you will never miss the spade fit if there is one but will gain
often 
from partner leading a diamond if you lose the auction.

it also helps to avoid 6S with 2 trump losers.
