Common sense suggests that if you don't understand the question you
say so, rather than guessing what it means.

Had my LHO in this situation asked more than one question, I would
assume he had a reason for doing it.  But there is more than one
possible reason. For example, he could be considering an overcall in
any suit, or he might be trying to determine which conventional
bidding agreement to apply (e.g., he might bid naturally against a
Polish club but use CRASH against a precision club). Until he links
his interest to the club suit, he has not suggested a lead.
