If your partner would have opened with three aces one can conclude the
opponents can have at least two aces if not all four of them. Further,
with your short spades it is more likely the opponents have a spade
fit. Consequently, it is more likely the opponents can out bid you and
make something. In particular, the opponents are more likely to back
into a making game such as 4S than your side. Since you are less
likely to go plus by opening passing would seem the better option.
