self-explanations and self-alerts

My memory is that on OKBridge, the bidder self-alerted his/her bid and
explained it to opps upon request.

Is it still that way? Is BBO that way?

I liked that. But do others like it? I mean, do you like it? I have
been assuming it works well (or else why do they do it), but I just
had the brilliant idea of actually asking people.

Obviously, it would work differently in face to face bridge. But
roughly, we are talking about you having the right to hear the
bidder's explanation of his bid, and your opps having the right to
hear your explanation of your bid.
