If the director is non-playing, then my feeling is that this is less of 
a problem than a player leaving.  The movement is running, everyone can 
continue playing, and someone else can give rulings if needed.

If the director is also the scorer, and doesn't return to score up, it's 
a lot ruder.  But otherwise, I suppose I feel that the director is 
basically just someone doing us a favour by agreeing to set up the 
movement and sort out any problems.  This is perhaps from the casual 
clubs I've often played in.
