The last time they beat us in a match, they lost IMP on both boards
where they opened their vaunted stong Club. If we could have played
CARDS, they might have been in trouble. As it was, the match was close.
We have had many good Club pairs in trouble and picked up a great many
boards against them. The better pairs will even tell you that the place
that they gain is on the hands where they don't open 1C. The Strong
Club is the price that they pay for limiting their other bids. The weak
pairs have a touching faith in their mantra that our interference will
help them.

I am trying to stay with bridge. My only surviving regular partner is a
good friend and still ambitious about the game. If she can go to the
Hawaii Nationals, I will raid my poker bankroll to go. Fargo last year
reminded me of a bridge tournament also, including the Hunter Thomspon
reference.
