If I recall my novice days, most novices are either too busy trying to
remember their own methods to worry about the opponents', or they're
fascinated by these interesting ****ny toys. Or both.

In other words, the permanent intermediates.
(Though one does see some better players who care, either because
they've convinced themselves it's im****tant because of the novices, or
perhaps because they're getting lazy.)
