VIRUS Phase 8
Multiplies In Attack
You have the power to multiply. When you play an Attack Card in a
challenge, you multiply the number of tokens on your side (yours plus
your allies') times the number on your card, instead of adding. If
there are no tokens on your side of the challenge, multiply the Attack
Card times zero.
HISTORY: Able to multiply rapidly in the presence of other life forms,
the Virus soon overwhelmed its own planets and now waits for
op****tunities to proliferate throughout the Universe.
FLARE
Phase 8
Wild: The value of your tokens multiplies times the value of the other
tokens on your side of the challenge instead of adding.
Phase 8
Super: Your power of multiplication applies to your side's total in a
challenge even if you are only an ally.
PULSAR
Phase 8
Con: As main player against Virus, he only adds his allies' tokens.
His tokens still multiply, however.
Phase 8
Pro: Your tokens multiply for consolation and rewards. For example, 3
tokens allows you 9 consolation cards.

Commentary: This is a combat power. At last we come to Virus, the
stereotype of combat powerhouses. With all the praise that is due
Virus, we must allow for reality to recognize that Virus is not
invincible. Anti-Matter, Loser, and Pacifist are but a few combat
powers than can defeat it. Resource depriving powers harm the Virus
player as any other. Virus means nothing when defending with only
zero or one token. Allies have incentive to ally with Virus, but wise
players know when enough is enough. Virus means nothing if the player
only has Compromise Cards or negative Attack Cards.
However, despite its vulnerabilities (as all powers have
vulnerabilities), Virus is still an awesome power. Virus wins more
challenges than it loses. Virus is still difficult to defeat in
combat. Rare would be the occasion for anyone to pass up Virus when
given the choice. Rarer still if the power choosing process includes
giving a passed power to another player as a choice. Virus is tops
in my book, right up there with Pacifist, Butler, and Silencer.
Other players will take advantage to their tokens multiplying as an
ally for an easy base or rewards, but players will just as easily team
up against Virus as best they could. They will do so through
resources, mostly. However, when Virus as offensive player is going
for the win, he cares little that everyone allies against him. Virus'
opponent has to get a high challenge total as possible. Virus has it
easy with four times his Attack Card. Even an Attack 8 gives him a
32, which isn't so easy to get for most powers. Mirror is no help.
Mirror can turn his 9 into 90, but Virus' 6 becomes 60, times four
gives 240. Obverse, on the other hand, screws up Virus royally.
How does Virus work against Anti-Matter? A bit of algebra is
necessary. Virus' total is Attack Card x his tokens - Attack Card x
allies' tokens. Using distributive property, Virus' total is (Virus
tokens - ally tokens) x Attack Card. At least, that's how I view it.
If I recall correctly, though, I think the official version is Virus
tokens x Attack Card - ally tokens. I disagree with this because even
though Anti-Matter signifies allies are subtracted, Virus signifies
allies are multiplied. My formula takes both into consideration.
Instead, one could just add Do Not Use With between Anti-Matter and
Virus and not worry about it.
