VIOLIN Phase 8
Chooses Consolation Cards
You have the power of pity. As main player, when you collect
consolation cards, you may look through your opponent's regular hand
and choose the cards you want. When your opponent collects
consolation cards from you, you select the cards he gets.
HISTORY: When something goes wrong for the Violins, they play music to
enhance the effect to impress upon others the sadness they feel. They
use the music to distract their enemies as they take away their
strengths for themselves to use.

Cosmic Monopoly
When another player rolls dice for movement, you may use that roll for
your roll for movement on your next turn. Once you have selected a
roll, you can not change it until after your next turn. You must use
that roll for your next turn, and then you are no longer in obligation
to it. If the roll is doubles it counts as doubles for you.
Commentary: This is a resource power created by me. Though I like the
Mayfair Lucre rules now, there was a time I did not. When I felt as
such, I tried to convert the Lucre powers into non-Lucre powers. I
was only successful with Ethic, creating Violin. Often times I have
great cards in my hand, only to lose them to consolation. I created
Violin to take care of that. Other times I take consolation but
didn't really want to - I only had a Compromise Card as a Challenge
Card and am desperate for a new hand. Sometimes I don't mind taking
consolation but get crappy cards. Violin takes care of that as
well.
It's a good power that increases the value of your Compromise Cards
while at the same time decreasing their value for other players.
Even though I changed Ethic in my set to a more fair economical power,
in my opinion, Violin/Ethic is still practically a no lose
combination. Play a Compromise, get any cards you want. Play an
Attack Card, and either win the challenge or get any cards you want or
get your opponent's Lucre.
