Power Of The Day -- Spiff

by Hadsil <forumite@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 3, 2008 at 01:19 PM

SPIFF Phase 8

Receives Base As Loser

You have the power to crash land. Whenever you are the offensive
player in a challenge, both players play Attack Cards, and you lose by
a total of 10 or more, you take one token you would otherwise lose to
the warp and place it on the winning defensive planet. Your power
cannot be used to crash land on moons.

HISTORY: Attacking vicious space monsters at incredible odds comes
naturally to the valorous Spiffs. Their cunning and courage have let
them save the day even when their doom seemed imminent. Let those who
face them beware!

Do Not Use With Filth

FLARE

Phase 8
Wild: As a losing offensive ally, you may place your tokens on the
planet in the challenge.

Phase 8
Super: You may crash land if the difference was more than 5.

PULSAR

Phase 8
Con: As Spiff's ally, if he can crash land, so can you.

Phase 8
Pro: As an offensive ally on normal cone or defensive ally on reverse
cone, if your side loses the challenge by 7 or more, you may crash
land on the attacked planet as per your power.

Experience Rating: Novice

Cosmic Monopoly

Long version only. When you crash land, you do gain a share of
ownership of the property. The defender keeps his share. You do not
pay rent.

Commentary: This is a combat power. A homage to Calvin and Hobbes,
it's rather cool to gain a base while losing a challenge, though a
combat difference of 10 is pretty steep. Even though many challenges
are won and lost by just a few challenge points, so too are they won
and lost by large amounts. Spiff has no fear of many combat powers
like Virus and Warpish. However, as an offensive player only power,
the Spiff player has limited affect on the game with this power alone.

Even though Spiff could not be in the same game as Filth, Mayfair
allows that some powers normally restricted could be used together.
Spiff/Filth is a viable combo and quite annoying. There would only be
a problem if one of the powers gets transferred to another player,
such as Changeling or Wild Dealer Flare. However, it is possible to
remove the restriction of using with Filth. Spiff crashlands on a
Filth planet. Filth power causes it to leave the planet and return to
other bases. The purpose of Spiff's power is to gain a base while
losing. Filth does prevent that, but at least Spiff gets to keep one
token from going to the warp. Filth only weakens Spiff a bit, not
completely shut down the power. They could be in the same game.
