Are backgammon and kriegspiel abstract strategy games?

by Rich Hutnik <getrich@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Nov 2, 2007 at 10:10 PM

Just curious here. The argument is that they are not, because
backgammon involves dice, and kriegspiel has imperfect information.
So, the question I would have is: are they or are they not?

The abstract strategy games site has an entry for Chebache, which uses
dice:

It is a backgammon variant.

Also people argue that kriegspiel actually fits as an abstract
strategy game.

So yes or no?
