The red bridges give you more energy if you fly under them with high 
speed. They are the main source for ****p fuel. Then there are power 
plants (marked "power" in the map). Those can be used only once 
before they are destroyed. So I advice you to practice some low 
level high speed flying and use the bridges  :)

Yes, you preferably clear the cyberspace floors you enter from 
enemies. Otherwise they will eat away your energy and you die.

First thing to do in each floor is to clear the aircraft and ground 
vehicle generators - and then the remaining machines. Actually 
the very first to destroy is that irritating bird that usually blocks
your view to actual target. Use missile and tractor beam to get rid
of the nuisanse. Also destroy its "mother ****p" that auto-gyro thingy. 
Then destroy the generators and the other machines. This should
give you some breathing space. Mind you the generators reappear
after some minutes so prepare to deal with them again when this
happens.

But that is the charm of the game - each level is like a big 
puzzle - you have to think your way through it   :)

It is the level one, its solution is given in the manual.
